Tuesday, July 24. 2007Are We Better Adapted for a High Fat, Vegetarian Diet? When you compare modern grains to nuts and seeds, you will see that humans as a species are much better adapted to utilizing high fat foods, nuts and seeds, as opposed to utilizing grains. The oils from these primal high fat foods is far more nourishing to the muscular system, far more nourishing to the neural system and the hormonal system, than the nutrients derived from grains. As a species we are genetically far better suited for storing fat and utilizing fat for energy than we are at utilizing carbohydrates. If we were adept as a species at using carbohydrates as a primary source of fuel, we would probably end up looking like carbohydrate-enriched bulbs, we would look like potatoes or yams, like the child's toy, Mister Potato Head. We should not ignore how we evolved and what nutrients we are adept at processing. We should not ignore what nutrients we are inept at processing. Those foods on the bottom of the food chain, fruits, vegetables, roots, legumes, nuts and seeds, are undoubtedly the most beneficial to our survival. Trackbacks

I just finished a snack of a raw mix of pecans, cashews, pistacios, and pumpkin seeds, and was eating a apple when I checked in on this blog. It's about 9am and this a typical of my diet during the day. My body comp was just tested and from my last test to now (3 mos), I had a zero net weight differential (170/170 lbs) but an increase of lean body mass of 4 lbs! I lift weights (mostly compound/Olympic style) 2-3 days (45-60 mins) and do interval work (sprints or kettlebell work) for 10 mins for the 3-4 other days. It works for me, but is too unconventional for the uninitiated so I don't talk about it much to other people. By the way I'm a 47 yo male. I'm invested in this lifestyle and it's paying off big time.
Ron, glad to hear you're having such great success. You're not alone. It sounds like you're a true warrior!
It makes a lot of sense to eat foods from "Mother Nature's Cupboard." When you read labels with stuff that you can't pronounce, you have to wonder why you would even eat it.
This summer I conducted a sports camp for elementary kids. I was introduced to sunflower seeds. I love them. Of course one of the kids brought Ranch and Barbeque flavors. I tried to convince him that these products contain the extras that you don't need and that this is not how sunflower seeds were supposed to be...I think he got the idea!
